It is 11/11/11 and can’t you just feel the surge of mystical energy race through you as the power that is hidden in this powerful combination of numbers washes over your very soul… or not, and just feel that it is a combination of numbers that was going to come together at some point whether we liked it or not. In any case, this most interesting of dates has a lot going on.

The biggest part of our day is going to be taking part in a fund-raiser event at our core church. It’s going to be a mystery dinner put on by the drama department and benefits a number of the groups at the church. It’s going to be so fun and a great bonding time for all of us.
This event almost wasn’t going to happen for us. The way my job’s scheduling system works is that when I request a day off I don’t have the ability to specify a particular part of the day that I can work, once I request a day off it’s going to be the whole day. Sounds pretty simple and awesome. Totally awesome if you can risk sacrificing the hours off your paycheck.
But normally these past few Friday mornings I’ve been working shipment and had the evenings free. Considering how hard hours are to come by, I didn’t want to jeopardize my getting hours that morning if I was going to be able to be off that night. So i didn’t request off and gambled on the hope that I would be scheduled on the day shift.
And of course, this was the week that my schedule strayed from the norm and I totally got saddled with a closing shift. Boo! But I quickly put my shift up to be taken, and thankfully after a few days of patient waiting a co-worker took my shift and I was now free to grab the ladies and I three shiny pirate-ship laden tickets. On the last day that I could nonetheless.
At this point the beau believed he was going to be on a plane to California for a show and wasn’t going to be able to make the event, hence me grabbing only three tickets instead of four. Come to find out yesterday that he got the dates all wrong and won’t be leaving till tomorrow. So now he can come to the event, but we have no ticket for him…and since the dinner is catered it might be tricky to get him in. I remember Deb (the drama head) talking about how last year’s dinner had quite a few people who just showed up the day of the event, and the mess it kind of was. We’re gonna run by the church earlier before the show and see if we can grab an extra ticket in hopes that they planned for more people to show than was originally pre-bought. I’m sure they did since they had it happen last year.

Today is also a big day for Potter fans like me. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is set to be released in stores today.
This was such a great film in the franchise, and dare-I-say that it is probably the best of the set!
Round out your collection today guys and enjoy it all over again.
The ladies called me this morning to watch a bit of The Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda. They were on location at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios: Islands of Adventure, doing a fun promotion kinda episode for the DVD/Blu-Ray release. So much fun, the actors who played the Weasley twins, Ron, Luna, and Lucius were all there to answer questions and have a bit of fun.
I will def be getting the Blu-Ray combo sometime in the next few days.
Here I am in front of Hogwart’s Castle when a group of us went to the Wizarding World back around March sometime. I had a great time!

Today is also the release date for the film Immortals into theatres. I’m super excited to see this film. Not only because of the awesome physical shape the actors are in, but just the general premise of the movie just excites me and I think it’ll look great on the screen. The training these guys had to do to get in shape for the movie was crazy tough and I so admire that hard work. I’m working hard in the gym and in my diet, but nowhere close to what these folks had to prepare for.
I raise a glass to them and will def be seeing the film.

Most importantly we can’t forget that today is also Veteran’s Day. Give some love, admiration, and a big thank you to those who put their lives on the line for our nation on a day-to-day basis. We may not like everything that goes on in our country, but we do have to admit we have the best living experience compared to numerous other societies around the globe.
My dad was a Vietnam veteran and served with the Marines for a number of years. He was drafted into the military, and we are fortunate in our current times that the military is a voluntary field. Gives thanks to those who have served and who are willingly serving our country.
Truth be told, I was in Air Force JROTC in high school and thought very seriously about going into the Air Force after graduating. But at that time I knew I was gay (I actually started coming out to folks and family at around my sophomore year), and I knew that the military wasn’t a friendly career path if I was wanting to be who I was. I chose the ability to be myself, but I still wonder where my life could have taken me if I had made the choice to enlist.
Here in the next month or so, all of the troops stationed overseas are scheduled to be heading back home after years of being away from friends and family. I salute you all and your choice to defend our great country.
And yes, despite all the flaws we have coming to the surface in our government as of late, I’m still so very proud to be an American.
So glad the dvd is out!
Amen to that!
